Types of Switzerland Visit Visas

Here are the three types of Switzerland Visit Visas:

1. Switzerland Tourist Visa

A Tourist Visa for Switzerland is required if you are travelling for tourism purposes and plan to stay for less than 90 days. Applications must be submitted at a Visa Facilitation Service Centre (VFS).

For those planning to stay in Switzerland with family for more than 90 days, a Family Reunification visa is required. You can apply either directly at the relevant cantonal migration authority in Switzerland, with processing taking approximately 8-12 weeks, or through a Swiss representation abroad, where the application is forwarded to the cantonal authorities.

A business visa is required for travel specifically for business purposes and is valid for up to 90 days. It is issued solely for business-related activities; for gainful employment, even if unpaid, a work permit is necessary.

Validity of the Switzerland Visit Visa

The Switzerland tourist visa, similar to other Schengen visas, permits a stay of up to 90 days within a six-month period.

If issued a multiple-entry visa, you can enter and exit the Schengen Area as often as you wish within six months, provided that your total stay does not exceed 90 days.

You are not required to spend the entire 90 days in Switzerland. The Swiss Schengen visa allows for travel across all Schengen countries during its validity period.

Schengen Visa

Switzerland is part of the Schengen Area, so if you already have a visa from a Schengen member state, you typically don’t need a separate tourist visa to visit Switzerland or any other Schengen country. However, your stay is limited to 90 days within any 180-day period.

Where Do I Apply for A Switzerland Tourist/Visitor Visa?

To apply for a Swiss tourist visa, you should submit your application to the Swiss embassy or consulate in your home country. If Switzerland does not have a representation in your country, you will need to apply through the embassy of a Schengen country where Switzerland has outsourced its visa processing.
