What are Australian PR Points?

Australia PR points are a system used to assess eligibility for PR visas. They’re a way for the Australian government to assess if you’d be a good fit for Permanent Residency (PR). Your points depend on factors like:

  • Age
  • English skills,
  • Work experience
  • Education
The minimum score needed is usually around 65. But, higher scores boost your chances of getting an invite to apply for PR. These points show how you could contribute to Australia’s economy and society.

Application Requirements for Points Based Migration in Australia

Invitation to Apply: To apply for this visa, you must first receive an invitation. The invitation will outline specific instructions on how to submit your application, which can only be done online. Along with the invitation, you’ll receive a unique link to access the online application form.

Age: You must be under 50 years old at the time you are invited to apply.

English Language: You need to demonstrate Competent English proficiency. This can be shown through an IELTS test with at least a score of 6 in each section or an Occupational English Test (OET) with a minimum score of B in all four components. Alternatively, if you hold a valid passport from the UK, USA, Canada, Ireland, or New Zealand, you meet the English requirement without further testing. Note that some occupations may require a higher level of English as determined by their assessment authority.

Nominated Occupation: When submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI), you must nominate an occupation that matches your skills and qualifications. This occupation must be listed on the Skilled Occupation Lists (SOL). Details on the SOL can be found on the official immigration website.

EOI Score and Assessment: After you submit your EOI, it will be ranked based on your skills and attributes. Invitations are sent to applicants with the highest rankings, depending on occupation ceilings. If invited, you will need to achieve a points score equal to or above what you claimed in your EOI, with the current pass mark set at 60 points.
